University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group Breast Services Review (April 2022)

The Clinical Senate has been asked to support the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) group with a review of their breast service and its governance structure at both Kettering General Hospital and Northampton General Hospital.

NHS Derby and Derbyshire CCG - Chesterfield Royal Hospital Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) Service Review – Desktop Exercise (February 2022)

The Clinical Senate was commissioned by Derby and Derbyshire CCG to review the process and outcome of an options appraisal for the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Senate was proactively approached by the CCG to gain independent, external clinical support on a transformation project, dependent on the outcome of the local options appraisal process. The Senate support also included a review of the internal processes to ensure they were sufficiently rigorous and robust.

Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Ophthalmology Clinical Governance review (September 2021)

An Independent Clinical Senate review of Clinical Governance and Risk Management of the Ophthalmology department was commissioned. The Senate panel acknowledged that this review was completed during COVID-19 recovery and this required implementing a different method for conducting the review. The impact on normal operational delivery of services was also noted.

University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group Draft Clinical Strategy Review – Desktop Exercise (September 2021)

The Clinical Senate has been asked to support the development of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) group clinical strategy. The clinical review team were asked to consider the draft strategy as a whole, and particularly, if the draft strategy goes far enough in its level of ambition for the local population of Northamptonshire.

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG and Nottingham University Hospitals - Tomorrow's NUH Thematic review (April 2021)

East Midlands Clinical Senate has recently undertaken a thematic review of key Clinical models to support the development of the Tomorrow’s Nottingham University Hospitals programme of work. This review will form part of the final TNUH report following public consultation (due to be undertaken in autumn 2021) and is anticipated to be released in Spring 2022.

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG and Nottingham University Hospitals - Tomorrow's NUH review (December 2020)

The Clinical Senate was commissioned to review the outline clinical model for the Tomorrow’s NUH programme – one of the Trusts within the national New Hospitals Programme. The aim of the review was to consider the clinical evidence base and rationale underpinning the recently developed proposals, providing an independent clinical opinion at an early stage of development for the transformation programme.

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG and NUH are continuing to work with the Clinical Senate as they progress their clinical plans, and develop detailed proposals for the future hospital configuration.  This will include specific focused reviews into areas where they are planning significant clinical redesign.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Nottingham & Nottinghamshire CCG - Clinical review of the Orion Assessment and Treatment Inpatient Unit (November 2020) 

The Senate was commissioned to conduct a service review by the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Executive Team and senior officers in the CCG on the proposed reconfigured service model of the Orion Unit. This is the only service of its type in Nottinghamshire providing specialist assessment and treatment for inpatients with a Learning Disability, with or without Autism, and with associated challenging behaviour and mental health issues which cannot be supported in the community.

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust - Adult and Older People Community Mental Health Services in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Review (October 2020)

The East Midlands Clinical Senate were asked by the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) STP to review their forward transformation plans for urgent and emergency mental health care and planned community mental health services for adults.

The system is proposing to bring a number of largely separate community mental health teams within Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust together and to work more closely with partners in the voluntary, community and other parts of the public sector.  The goal is that there is a much clearer joined up secondary care offer focused around the individual service user.

Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Ear, Nose and Throat Service – Clinical Governance and Risk Management Review (October and November 2020)

An Independent Clinical Senate review of Clinical Governance and Risk Management in the Ear, Nose and throat (ENT) service of Kettering General Hospital was invited by the Trust following a Freedom To Speak Up concern raised by a staff member regarding these areas.  The Senate panel acknowledged that this review was completed just after wave one of COVID-19 and this has impacted on the method of delivering the review as well as the normal operational delivery of services.

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCGs - National Rehabilitation Centre (July 2019 & September 2020)

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG - NHS Rehabilitation Centre (part of the vision for the National Rehabilitation Centre) (September 2020)

The clinical review team were asked to examine aspects of the clinical model in more detail subsequent to the original clinical review panel on 29 July 2019 to support the commissioners as they proceed through the NHS England and NHS Improvement process for major service change.

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCGs - National Rehabilitation Centre (July 2019)

The clinical review team were asked to examine the clinical case for change underpinning the proposals for the National Rehabilitation Centre. The National Rehabilitation Centre includes a regional clinical facility and national research and education hubs in state-of-the-art facilities on the Department of Defence Stanford Hall Estate.
