The East Midlands Clinical Senate was commissioned earlier in the year to undertake a further two clinical reviews, specifically looking at Maternity Services and Community Services.

Maternity Services

The aim of the clinical review was to test if there is a clear clinical evidence base underpinning the proposals and to provide an independent clinical opinion on the equity and quality in access of the proposed reduction in acute sites, and whether the proposal is clinically capable of delivering, and is aligned to, the Better Births recommendations.

Community Services

The Clinical Senate was commissioned to undertake a review of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland’s community services model in the early part of 2018 and specifically, proposals around Hinckley and Bosworth hospital. This was early advice provided by the Clinical Senate to the commissioners. Subsequently and in light of more recent events with the Covid-19 pandemic, the commissioners have taken the decision to review its proposals. The Clinical Senate understands that the commissioners (ICS) will re-engage with the Senate in the near future when proposals have been revised in light of current and more recent circumstances.
